The area, which is home to many of Greece's millionaires, ministers and celebrities, stretches out from the foot of the Hymettus Mountain and reaches out to embrace the Saronic Gulf. It is the largest of Athens’s southern suburbs. The Glyfada Golf Course, designed by Donald Harradine in 1962 and then remodeled by Robert Trent Jones, for the 27th World Cup Series in 1979 opened has continually hosted such events as the World Cup Tournament in 1979, the Mediterranean Gamers in 1992, and for the past three years, the PGA Senior Greek Open. The course is an 18 hole, Par 72 course. It is a green oasis of rolling hills, landscaped with mature trees and shrubbery. In addition to its Pro Shop, driving range and putting green, the course has facilities for meetings and social events for up to 2,000 people. Costa Navarino Golf Course The Costa Navarino Golf Course is located in Messenia, in the southwest Peloponnese and features two brand new signature golf courses - at Navarino Dunes and Navarino Bay. The area known as Messenia is surrounded by mountains to the north and west and the Mediterranean to the south and west. This area of the Mediterranean is known as the Ionian Sea. The directly to the south of the area is known as the Gulf of Messenia. The Navarino Dunes represents the first signature golf course in Greece, designed by former US Masters Champion and Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer in association with European Golf Design. It is an 18 hole, par 72 course. The Dunes Course boasts a full-size driving range and a short-game practice area with the largest green in Europe, the 3,500m Dunes Clubhouse with well-appointed dining and function areas for pre- and post-tournament activities, a designated members lounge with terrace, water features and island garden, plus an exclusive pro shop. The Bay Course at Navarino Bay, designed by Robert Trent Jones II, is scheduled to open in autumn 2011 and it will meander through three distinct natural landscapes. The Seaside, Canyon, and Grove holes will provide striking contrasts that make for a dramatic and memorable golf round. It is going to be an 18 hole, par 71 course. The Bay Course boasts an impressive clubhouse with full-service locker and guest-changing facilities, dining and banquet space for pre- and post- tournament activity, a fully-equipped shop will offer the latest in golf equipment and apparel from a range of international brands, extensive practice facilities including well-appointed driving range and putting green, a team of golf professionals will be available for private lessons and coaching sessions and state-of-the-art fleet of golf carts available for hire. Golfers may also experience the course on foot. |
