The area, which is home to many of Greece's millionaires, ministers and celebrities, stretches out from the foot of the Hymettus Mountain and reaches out to embrace the Saronic Gulf. It is the largest of Athens’s southern suburbs. The Glyfada Golf Course, designed by Donald Harradine in 1962 and then remodeled by Robert Trent Jones, for the 27th World Cup Series in 1979 opened has continually hosted such events as the World Cup Tournament in 1979, the Mediterranean Gamers in 1992, and for the past three years, the PGA Senior Greek Open. The course is an 18 hole, Par 72 course. It is a green oasis of rolling hills, landscaped with mature trees and shrubbery. In addition to its Pro Shop, driving range and putting green, the course has facilities for meetings and social events for up to 2,000 people.
Porto Elounda Golf Course The Porto Elounda Golf Course is located at the Porto Elounda De Lux Resort on the east coast of the Greek island of Crete. Elounda is part of the municipality of Agios Nikolaos, until recently (2010) belonging to the prefecture of Lassithi and as of the passage of new legislation, the periphery of Crete. The course was designed by Chris Pittman and was established in 1996 near a hillside with the backdrop of mountains and amalgamates harmoniously with its environment offering spectacular view overlooking the Bay of Mirabello. It is a 9-hole, par-3 course with 2 playing options for each hole pro shop, 54 handicap required PGA pro on site 18-hole championship course. The Club House is set amidst a picturesque Cretan village square and contains a pro shop, as well as a Golf Academy. Crete Golf Club The Crete Golf Club is located south of the famous summer holiday destination of Hersonissos. Hersonissos is 26kilometres east of Heraklion, between Anissaras and Stalis and has been developed due to tourism and, in just a few decades, has grown into the largest tourist resort in Crete. Hersonissos is officially named Limenas Hersonissou (“Port of Hersonissos”). The course has been built to international PGA standards by architect Bob Hunt, a member of the English PGA and opened in October, 2003 and is open year round. It has hosted the EGA Men’s Challenge Trophy with great success in July 2008, while for 3 consecutive years it also hosted the Aegean Airlines Pro-Am. The course is an 18 hole, Par course. The course provides extensive practice facilities; including double-ended 300yard covered driving range with short game area and two practice putting greens also has a golf academy for teen-agers and adults, a snack bar, a pro shop and a café. |
